Hyaluron as a miracle cure for wrinkles

Hardly any other cosmetic ingredient has experienced a trend development in the last few years that is as similar as hyaluron. But why? We explain what is behind hyaluron.

What is hyaluron?

Hyaluronic acid does exist in the entire human body. It is mainly found in the connective tissue. It provides for its natural elasticity and firmness. With age, the natural amount of hyaluronic acid in the body decreases, causing the connective tissue and thus the appearance of the skin to lose volume. Signs of skin ageing, such as the first wrinkles, appear.

The active ingredient hyaluron can bind a lot of water very effectively (up to 6 litres of water per gram). However, since hyaluron is poorly absorbed by the skin in its full size, degradation fragments of hyaluronic acid are often used in cosmetics. These have a lower molecular weight (e.g. 50 or 130 kilodaltons), which makes them easier to penetrate into the skin.

Due to its ability to absorb or bind a lot of water, hyaluronic acid plumps up and stabilises the skin from the inside. This active ingredient is therefore ideal for reducing the first wrinkles.
